What Kind of Planner Are You?

The time to start planning your 2016 is now! But when it comes to planning, people tend to have a particular approach to how they do it.

Many people dive in wholeheartedly with their sticky notes and Sharpies ready to go and others stand on the sidelines and wait to see what’s going to happen.

Before we dive into 2016 Planathon, it’s important to understand the kind of planner you are so you can make the most of your time spent planning. Plus, it will help you know what issues may come up as you move into planning mode.

The Gung-Ho Sticky Note Planner

You may be the Gung-Ho planner if you’re absolutely giddy at the thought of planning because it’s kinda your favorite hobby. You’re the one with the drawer full of sticky notes and a rainbow of Sharpies ready to help anyone plan anything. Because planning is the solution to EVERYTHING!

Planathon Power Tip: Slow down gung-ho and take some time to get clear on your goals and don’t get caught up in all the excitement. Before we get started give some thought to what your big three focuses are for 2016 and write those on your sticky notes.

The Over Planner

You’re definitely the over planner if you have a packing list for every trip or set of standard operating procedures for your home. (Also, if you have a labeller and are prone to labelling everything!)  You love to plan but bring a whole new level of intensity to the process. You occasionally been known to use planning as an excuse to avoid doing actual work.

Planathon Power Tip: Deep breath. You don’t have to have all the answers and know every single thing you’re going to do in 2016. Take those big goals and break them down into a set of mini goals so you can focus on the areas that you need most for the Planathon.

The Non-Committal Planner

If you’re the non-committal planner, you may find yourself not even sure that you need to do this Planathon thing. Or you might jot down a few things before the end of the year, but you’re not really sure what you want out of 2016.

Planathon Power Tip: It’s go time! Stop waffling and pick one big goal for 2016. Usually if you’re non-committal it’s because you’re dancing around what you really, really want. So take some time to figure that out before we get started. Your deadline is November 9th!

The Freestyle Planner

You define chill, even when it comes to planning. Sometimes there’s a plan. Sometimes you’re running on a wing and a prayer, and most of the time you pull it off. (That’s most of the time, not all the time.) What if for 2016 you were able to pull it off ALL the time with just a wee bit more planning effort?

Planathon Power Tip: You can plan and not give your life over to rigid plans that prevent you from the freedom of running your own biz. Take a look back at the past year and identify one area where things may have benefitted from a bit more planning and commit to focusing on that for the Planthon.

The Lazy Planner

Dude, you’re the B-O-S-S for a reason. And that’s because you so don’t have an interest in wearing pants or writing plans. Planning feels like a lot of work, and you’re busy enough thank you very much. You’ve got things to do. Netflix marathons of Gossip Girl to indulge in.

Planathon Power Tip: You can totally not wear pants and do things your way, but what’s the harm in doing a little bit of planning? (Even if you do it in your lazy way.) If nothing else you can enjoy the entertainment of the Planathon’s all-star line up of guests. I can guarantee that some of them are more interesting than Blair and Serena.
