This week, I want to teach you a little trick that will help you hack your own brain.
Imagine if walking the path to success were as instinctual as breathing – how cool would that be??
Don't worry, you won't need a degree in neurobiology or a wild mad scientist hairstyle to benefit from this lesson. All you'll need is a note card and a little bit of brainstorming.
This brain hack is actually a goal-setting strategy that I've been using since 2008 that helps you keep your focus on specific goals by embedding them into your unconscious mind! It also happens to outlined in a book called Think and Grow Rich written by Napoleon Hill in 1937. When I read the book, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a strategy I'd been following for so many years has actually been recommended for so long – obviously, I'd been doing something right!
Now, I want to you to benefit from this strategy, too.
I want you to come up with your own Goal Card for this year. (Nice Tip: I walk you through this process if you have access to the Planathon Vault)
First things first: I want you to go grab yourself a note card or a small piece of paper. Yes, right now! It's okay – I'll wait!
This is where you are going to write down your goal. Once you've finished working through the steps I'm about to describe, I want you to keep this note card somewhere where you'll see it every day. That will help keep your goal in the front of your mind.
Once the goal is firmly ingrained in your psyche, working towards it will just be a part of your natural behavior – eventually, you won't even need to consciously think about it!
Do you have your paper ready? Great!
Let's get started!
A Goal Card is more than just writing down a vague goal and hoping that it will inspire you. What I want you to do is really figure out what your goal means and what it entails – we do that by breaking the goal down into four different components:
- What are you working towards right now?
- What is the financial target associated with this goal?
- What is your timeline to meet this goal?
- What will you do to deliver value in exchange for the financial reward?
Note: if your specific goal doesn't have a monetary target associated with it, you can choose another key performance measure. The point is to be able to track your progress, so that you know that you're still on track!
Haily Dale posted a good example of a goal card in our free Facebook Group! Click here to check it out!
To Sum it All Up:
Taking a little bit of time to figure out your goal and break it down like this is a great investment in your success potential for the rest of the year, so I really encourage you to work on it right now! I'd love to hear what you've come up with in the comments, so feel free to share!
